Welcome back!
Anyone who has ever had trouble with their eyes will know the discomfort of having to constantly wear spectacles or contact lenses at every given moment of the day. Sports and other pastimes are difficult since the glasses or lenses have to be taken care if even when the game is being played. With the advent of Lasik surgery, many people are now able to live their lives without the need for these nuisances. But the cost is on the high side so many people are now using vision coverage in their insurance contracts to offset any extra costs. vision plans reduce the rate charged for this eye surgery by quite some degree bringing it within the grasp of the average working person.
The surgery itself is not complicated. What it concerns is the surface of the eyeball only which has no nerves. Most people are born with eyeballs that are perfectly round and spherical. This means that the retina, the seeing part of the eye, is looking through that surface on a perfect plane where nothing is slanted. Some unfortunate souls are born with eyes that are slightly ovoid, egg shaped, on one or even all surfaces which causes the problem. This then means that the retina is looking through a slanted surface which will distort the sight to some degree.
The eye is measured very carefully and a plan to excise the unwanted cells to perfect the sight is worked out. A laser literally slices the cells off the surface leaving a perfectly flat space for the retina to see without obstruction. Although this procedure is quite complex on paper, it actually is a quick procedure done under local anesthetic without the patient being put to sleep. After several days of drops and rest the patient should be able to see with more clarity than before. Of course, some people will not get perfect vision after this style of operation but they should find some relief without a doubt. Spectacles, if they still have to be worn, will be of a lesser strength and weight which often is enough for most people.
Coverage by insurance is also a distinct possibility. Most people who have health insurance through their company may be offered the chance to add a rider onto this for as little as fifty cents per month. This then allows them access to a list of approved surgeons who will be qualified to do this procedure. Their charges normally range about one thousand dollars less from the normal charges per eye.
Of course, the patient can pick and choose any doctor that they want to do the operation and they should still save something. However, using one of the surgeons on the list is where most savings will be made. This service becomes even more important if the patient has family members because these will also qualify under the scheme. If two or three members avail themselves of this service then the savings can be very high indeed. For the sake of a few dollars per year, this must be one of the best bargains available today.

Saving money currently is quite an effort to accomplish and a lot of people are finding that even the basic advantages we used to take for granted are becoming harder to acquire. It used to be that a truly good job package would consist of such benefits as an excellent employer sponsored health care package. That is no longer the case as business owners look for ways to trim their own expenses so they cannot just keep the doors open to their business but so they can turn a profit as well. A person is fortunate to retain any health care benefits offered by their employer and it is not uncommon for that employee to shoulder a portion of the costs for this advantage. It is also rare to find that this package contains anything extra such as dental or vision coverage. Most of the time a vision plan is attained at an extra cost to the employee and it must be analyzed to see if this addition cost is worth it. A truly comprehensive employer sponsored health care package will contain:
1. Low deductibles – This is a great benefit that reduces the out of pocket expenses to be born by the employee. The rates for insurance go down when a opts to shift the responsibility to the employee of high deductibles and large co-payments so this is an appealing type of insurance to carry on their employees.
2. Dental insurance – A group rate for dental insurance that consists of routine examinations is a real benefit to workers. There is almost always an extra charge for orthodontics work but oftentimes a good dental insurance contract will pay most of the cost for these checkups and cleanings and a portion of any dental work such as fillings and crowns. These can result in significant savings to an average family who takes advantage of these offerings.
3. Mental health evaluations and treatment – There was a time that this was considered unnecessary but thankfully as more and more people are taking advantage of available mental health resources this insurance will accommodate them. Diagnosis, counseling and mental health medications are often available at a small cost to the employer and employees are finding that this form of treatment puts money back into the company by preventing lost work time and poor work habits.
4. Large pool of physicians in network – It is a distinct advantage to be able to select a doctor from many that are available rather than a handful that are located nearby. The quality of care and the stability enjoyed by retaining a preferred physician is considered an asset by the patient and contribute greatly to a good insurance program.
5. Regular eye screenings – When this benefit is offered it is a service that can detect early stages of eye diseases such as Glaucoma, Cataracts and Macular Degeneration. These diseases are well known for costing folks their eyesight. When they are found to be present at their beginning stage, they are much more easily treated and can often improve or at least preserve current eyesight possibilities for a person.
